3 HURDLES EVERY ADHD ENTREPRENEUR FACES.

ADHD Problems for entrepreneurs (1) (1).png
  1. FEELING UNWORTHY.

A lot of ADHD entrepreneurs feel as though they are not good enough to start a business that solves other people’s problems.

The feeling comes from a familiar state of not being good enough.

We feel as though we don’t measure up to others. We make silly mistakes. Our worth comes from how good we are at things. Someway our standard became perfection.

It also comes from feeling like you’re not an expert.

It’s coupled with imposter syndrome where you don’t feel like an expert who should be the one to solve other people’s problems.

These hurdles can really stunt an ADHD entrepreneur’s growth especially because it happens at the onset of the business and can affect how you interact with your potential clients.

It also shows up when you’re not confident in your business.

The way you describe your business, what it does and the transformations it offers people will not only be vague but not convincing.

And if you have ADHD as an entrepreneur, this is something you’ve struggled with/ still struggle with. I have experienced the same hurdles as an ADHD business coach when I was at the beginning of my journey and it brought a lot of confusion, lack of motivation and almost made me give up on my dream.

If you happen to experience this one, read on to find out what you can do to slowly work through these emotions so that they can stop showing up in how you talk about your business.

2. FEELING LIKE ADHD IS THEIR REASON FOR NEVER SUCCEEDING IN THEIR BUSINESS

ADHD can really leave you feeling like a failure.

You constantly fail at different tasks because of your ADHD and after experiencing it for a long time, you stop believing in your abilities to win at anything.

It’s like you’re almost always certain you’ll fail at whatever you try because of your ADHD.

And when that happens, you find yourself constantly blaming your ADHD, hating yourself and eventually losing confidence in yourself to run your business successfully.

This will normally happen when you realize that running a business is not as easy as most business coaches make it look.

You find out the bitter truths about running your own business as an ADHD entrepreneur like securing clients has a formula to it, lack of brand awareness and the ROI on your business investment is not what you thought it would be.

And most of the time, we ADHD entrepreneurs will blame our ADHD for our lack of success in new business ventures. Instead of finding a way to make it better, we will often blame ourselves, feel frustrated, stressed and sometimes this can lead to quitting.

3. NEVER SELLING/ PROMOTING BUSINESS.

People with ADHD are very conscious about how they interact with other people.

You know how sales men make you feel and you struggle with not wanting to sound too salesy.

You know you started your business because you are actually about helping people rather than how much money you earn so it’s a really huge struggle.

While most ADHD entrepreneurs will face this problem later on in their business when they launch their products or begin to interact with potential clients, most actually say that this is a constant struggle from the first day of starting their business.

Talking about your business with potential clients is extra hard because you don’t want to seem like you started your business solely to make money off of it.

And I’ve actually experienced this one. It was hard for me to talk about my offers earlier on in my business because I felt I didn’t have enough proof to sell anything. I didn’t want to seem inauthentic. And I eventually got a solution that worked for me. Read on to find out what the solution was for this particular hurdle.

HOW TO FIX THESE ADHD PROBLEMS FOUND IN ENTREPRENEURS.

I would be lying if I said I didn’t experience these problems when I first started my business.

And as a woman living with ADHD, I can tell you it was crazy hard.

There were no resources 2 years ago about ADHD entrepreneurs or ADHD in general.

I didn’t know how I could overcome these hurdles and I couldn’t find any answers about ADHD so I decided to do it by myself with the backup of a powerful group of people who cheered me on.

I constantly worked on changing my mindset and eventually changed my emotions towards my business.

With that being said, here are some of the solutions you can implement in your life to make it easier to counter these ADHD hurdles.

SOLUTION TO FEELING LIKE ADHD IS THE CAUSE OF FAILURE.

Of course you will face a lot of hurdles when you have ADHD. That will not change but what can change is how you handle those shortcomings.

Find yourself never taking action and constantly day dreaming about your ideas? Read this solution on how you can be able to counter that ADHD problem here.

Find yourself constantly forgetting? Find different hacks to be able to remember things easily. Create a habit of writing that will remind you of what you wanted to do/ say.

Can’t seem to track the amount of time it takes to finish a project? Start using alarms to help you figure out how much time you’re putting into a project so that you can be able to work on all the aspects of your business.

SOLUTION TO FEELING UNWORTHY.

Realize that the feeling of unworthiness stems from your upbringing and the experiences that have shaped you. You’re not just feeling unworthy in your business. You’ve carried the feeling of unworthiness for a long time. (phew this is getting deep. But so so important to talk about friend.)

WHAT TO DO IF YOU FEEL THAT WAY

Identify where along the line you started to believe the lie that you are unworthy. Who or what made you feel that way?

What is the proof you’ve held on to that continues your belief of it.

Then, ask yourself which aspect of your business makes you feel unworthy?

Could you be comparing yourself to seasoned industry experts?

All you have to do is know just a little bit more than the person who you’re helping. That’s it. You don’t have to be like that “guru” in your industry. You just have to be 1-2 stepw ahead of your audience and that will help whoever your business serves.

SOLUTION TO NEVER SELLING/ PROMOTING YOUR BUSINESS.

I get it. You started your business because you want to help people. But now you have to start selling products to actually make a living off of your business AND help people.

The only problem is that you’ve tried selling your products but you didn’t get much bites. You’re worried about what your friends and family think. Or get discouraged by the low amount of likes and engagement.

But how will you show that your product can and will solve someone’s needs if you don’t consistently talk about it?

How will the right people who need that product actually know and have access to it for it to change their lives?

Aren’t you in business to change people’s lives? If so, it’s time you started selling.

Here are your options:

  1. Hire a sales person (expensive).

  2. Solely trust in referrals and the stars aligning.

  3. Watch competitors thrive.

  4. Admit that you don’t care about your people enough to put yourself through a moment of discomfort selling. (ooo that one burns)

QUICK DISCLAIMER

When you do start promoting your business and products, find a channel that works for you. Don’t get forced into doing videos if you’re an introvert. Don’t get pushed into doing a form of marketing that makes you uncomfortable. It will make you hate selling even more.

Final Advice:

Be yourself. Consistently talk about your product/service.

Value your value. Start believing in yourself and affirming yourself you ARE worthy (and totally badass).
